why is the academy so mean to comedians

Why? Also why does the academy hardly give comedians oscars.

Good question. He might get nominated this year.

There is not a separate category for humor. And that creates problems for comedies, because a lot of people don't have any humor. I suspect that percentage is even higher among Academy members. And comedies hit a very narrow target group. If you are not in that group the movie aims for, chances are you think the movie sucks.
