Dumb questoin that has porbably been asked...related to James L. Brooks?

I just noticed that he works on a lot of James L. Brooks movies (not to mention several apperances on the "The Simpsons" and the upcoming movie). In his bio, it doesn't seem to be mentioned either way. I assume he isn't and it's just a common name.

Nope. No relation. Just as you said, "a common name"... But they do go a long ways back as friends.

Not a dumb question, in fact I just returned from seeing "The Simpsons Movie" for the second time, and was about to post the same question. James L. Brooks directed "Broadcast News" with Albert, and I recalled other connections as well.

I was not aware that his birth name was Albert Einstein, incidently. His parents must have concieved a more intellectual career path for him.

So Albert Brooks (comedian, writer) and James Brooks (writer, producer) are NOT related? Albert Brooks did a voice-over (see credits) on James Brooks film "Terms of Endearment" (1983). Albert Brooks wrote, directed and played the lead in "The Muse" (1999). I got confused when listening to the audio commentary of "Terms of Endearment", the voices of the both Brooks belong to different ppl (who do have different first names I later learned duh...).
An earlier post said that they are/were friends.
