R.I.P.

Made some great movies (may he rest in peace)

reply

Source? I see nothing on IMDb about his death.

reply

It's all over the internet amigo (IMDB stopped being a source of news....even movie related....years ago)

A simple Google (or whatever search engine you use) should suffice?

reply

IMDb needs to catch up, it didn't report a death message when I checked.

reply

IMDB have just put a link (from another source) on it's news page.

They became a paid-for shill site for studios to peddle their wares, around the late noughties (long before they got rid of their message boards)
Looking at their 'agenda' of late, they'd be more concerned if Bogdanovich 'ticked' a box (as opposed to being put in one)

reply

Probably, I wouldn't know. I used to be on IMDb all the time for the message boards, but I just go there now for information. I mean, it IS a database, after all.

reply

......as witnessed by IMDB's instant fawning over the sad passing of Sidney Poitier

reply

Sad news. The Last Picture Show nay be the best American film of the 1970s - and I love Targets, Paper Moon and Saint Jack, too. R.I.P.

reply

He was a great filmmaker and film historian. It's so sad to see him go. Rest in peace.

reply

Man, didn’t realize he passed away too! This is getting out of hand after just learning about Poitier a few hours ago.

R.I.P. Mr. Bogdanovich.

R.I.P.

He made a few great movies. Later in his career he had some good ones, like the Cat's Meow, but he never really got back to the heights he reached early on.

I believe his life partly inspired the movie Irreconcilable Differences. He left his wife for a model who was getting into acting, did a musical that was a huge failure. Had a series of bombs after a strong start.

He was a big supporter of the "auteur theory" of filmmaking, that the director should be seen as the author of the movie, which I never really liked. I think his career actually disproves it. When Bogdonavich had good scripts to work with, he usually made a quality film, but when he didn't, he couldn't save them. It's a collaboration.
