sharePure Genius. Women are always punished for the mistakes of men. The whore pays, while the director makes Starship Troopers.
shareShowgirls is awful, but at least its entertainingly awful, rather than just plain bad.
Why has everyone suddenly started putting a 'spoiler' as their signature?
SHOWGIRLS...is only one of the BEST movies EVER MADE!
It is pure unadulterated fun!
I agree, it wasn't her fault at all. The movie is laughably bad, and for that I love it...but it's that way because of the director/writer. Someone else said it, women always pay for all the mistakes men make.
shareI hadn't really thought of it that way, but maybe you guys are right. I tend to think of the undue credit (and discredit) that actors bear, regardless of the quality of a film's writing and directing.

Think cynical thoughts.
Man, I bet she fired the agent that suggested Showgirls to her. She was trying to prove herself as a serious actor but instead starred in the biggest B-movie of the 90s. Her career is beyond salvageable at this point. It's not like she can make a comeback like Mickey Rourke because he was actually a hot commodity at one point. Berkely went from a teen sitcom star to washed up movie actress with her first outing. She better keep her fingers crossed for a Saved by the Bell reunion movie.
shareActually she jumped in SHOWGIRLS without hesitation. She then signed with CAA and after the movie opened to disastrous reviews, she was asked to leave the agency.
shareDid she really "ruin" her career? She was the star of a tacky teen sitcom that transitioned into "B" films and minor roles. That sounds about right to me. Who else became a major star on the basis of a reputation from something like "Saved by the Bell"? Very few people...and Berkley was hardly a stand-out.
