Ode to Robby Benson

CMT played Ode to Billy Joe last night. I can't believe how that movie brought on a flood of memories.
When this movie was made, there wern't many teen heartthrobs for us girls. Then came Robby Benson. We had posters to dream over, magazine articles to swoon over and sleepovers when we knew he was going to be on a certain TV program. We'd all hug our pillows and sigh.
Seems silly nowadays, but it's not any different than today.
Robbie was my first crush. I loved his eyes and hair and manner and just the way he was.
OTBJ was a controversial break-thru movie in the 70's. It dealt with the tender subject of young love, homosexuality, teenage pregnacy and hurtful gossip. These were things left in the closet in the '50's (about the time the movie came out). Two brave teen actors looked the role in the face, didn't flinch and did great jobs.
Thanks Robby, for bringing back the memory of my teens. Those were good years. Glad you were part of them.
kisses.

I had been meaning to "Google" Robby for months now. He was my first crush also as a young girl growing up in Jamaica. I loved EVERYTHING about him, especially his soft spoken demeanour.

Happily today I remembered to look him up on the net...here I am on a Robby Benson message board. I had so many posters of him in my bedroom, loved his TV and big screen movies and was 1st in line to see them at the theatres.

I'm wondering if there are any DVDs out there of his movies..does anyone know?

you may have googled him already, but if you go to www.ebay.com or www.amazon.com you will get a whole slew of films with him, And at great prices, some of my personal reccomendations are..

Die Laughing, The Chosen, Ice Castles, Two of a kind, Death be not proud, Beauty and the Beast (voice of the beast), Jory, YES even Homewrecker..it's a quiet little sci-fi flick with not too much going on, but plenty of Robby to see!

Happy hunting! G

Robby was my HUGE crush when I was in high school!! I, too, loved his eyes, and softspoken voice. I still have my scrapbook with all of his pictures from Tiger Beat, etc.. I absolutely LOVED the movie "One On One," the story, the soundtrack, ROBBY!

He has his own website: www.robbybenson.net where you can see some great pictures, as well as listen/buy the soundtrack to a musical he wrote and performed with his wife, Karla, on Broadway. His voice is still dreamy, and Karla really blows you away with her amazing voice.

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for my first "crush!" :0)
