Maybe, Plummer and Bacall who were once gorgeous, started to look mean early on in their careers.
But I think stress and a bad lifestyle (aside from genes) are the biggest aging factors. He moved out of Hollywood into the Mountains in his peak, met his wife of 30 years at a young age (they seem to have a strong lasting relationship), and is now working more behind the scenes than in front of the camera, all those things I imagine helped him have a less stressful life. If he hadn't left Hollywood/acting and had a series of divorces like other celebrities, I imagine he would not look as good. Plus, he doesn't seem to have any problems with alopecia, very thick hair!
