They were both so in love. But in the end, Pier did what mommy wanted her to do. She married Vic Damone. Pier's mother didn't want James Dean for her because he wasn't Catholic. I'm sure not being Italian didn't help either. Pier was never truly happy. It's obvious when you see how she ended up committing suicide. I read somewhere that Pier Angeli said the only man she ever loved was James Dean. Very sad.

I can see why James Dean did. I love her accent too. The actress that plays her in the James Dean biopic with Franco looks absolutely nothing like her.

There are rumors, James sat on his motorcycle outside the church during the wedding, but he denied it. Vic Damone. had a rough go with his marriages as well. I read he and Pier engaged in a nasty custody dispute over their son, his marriage to Diahann Carroll was rocky, I never knew that, and he had legal issues with his step daughters over his last wife's estate when her health was failing. I think Pier's last marriage ended in divorce as well. I agree the fact that Jimmy was not Italian nor Catholic were cons in Pier's momma's eyes as well.
