I am totally not agreeing with all of these. I prefer the AFI list. I also think that you cannot mix modern actors/actresses with classic film actors/actresses.

To begin with, the method of acting is considerably different. Oscars mean nothing too. Naturally it elevates their supposed status, but look at Leonardo Di Caprio. The Oscars were just announced and this is his 6th nomination with no wins. Look at the work that man has done. The fact that the Academy hasn't officially recognized him is total 💩.

Besides, Jennifer Jones slept her way to the top. Leaving her first husband to become and alcoholic and kill himself, as if she even cared. She then took up with the big boss, David O. Selznick, who fell hook line and sinker for her. Stupid man. She used him to get prime roles, even though her talent wasn't all that. She was cute in The Song of Bernadette (1943), I'll grant her that, but anyone could have easily replaced her and been just as good.

This is wrong in so many ways. Meryl is good, I'll give her that, but many nominations are not necessarily because of better talent, it's often the competition sucked that year. Sorry, but I prefer to go by acting abilities. Again, Meryl is modern so I don't feel that she belongs on a 30s-70s list.

Besides, where is Joan Fontaine (Olivia de Havilland's, sister who just died; she did a number of Hitchcock films) on that list? How about Ginger Rogers or even Jean Arthur? The most glaring is his omission of Vivien Leigh. REALLY?! Apparently he hasn't seen Gone with the Wind (1939), Waterloo Bridge (1940) nor A Streetcar Named Desire (1951).

I mean, I fully understand his intention, but it doesn't appear that he's familiar with the real work of these women. You may have a higher incidence of having a car crash rather than a plane crash but plane crashes still happen. Just because some have more trophies or nominations, means nothing. It just means that timing is everything.

I really do thank you for sharing this though. It is thought provoking in any case.
