She needs a good director!

I think Kate Winslet can win another Oscar only with a good movie directed by a very good director. She made some disappointing movies because they were average but also with mediocre directors! The Divergent series was also awful, the only good movie was Steve Jobs but Danny Boyle is not one of the best for critics. The Dressmaker is Aussie and was big in Australia but Moorehouse is underrated probably but at leat is more original and unique! Search a good director and a good script Kate, otherwise don't waste your time!

I mostly agree. I actually think The Dressmaker is a step in the right direction; back to the more off-the-beaten-track of her 90's/early 2000's career.
It seems as though the actress from that time is pretty much gone, though. Looking at her older movies compared to her recent offerings, all I get is an overwhelming sense of "this will do." I'm not sensing any ambition from her anymore; no hunger or drive to do something risky or jolting. Maybe she just isn't receiving many scripts these days though, or perhaps all of the scripts she does get are just more of the same old period piffle (A Little Chaos? Really?).

I was a big fan of hers a few years ago (I used to post a lot on the old DiscoverKate website, which was great!), but she has just left me totally cold lately. She also comes across - dare I say - pretty unlikeable in most interviews. Sad to say, but there we go.

Anyway, I still think she's talented and could potentially get her train back on the right track, but she's going to have to work a damn sight harder if she wants to keep any sort of gravitas to her name.

The Dressmaker is underrated...

Her agent seems useless lately, Kate managed herself a role in Steve Jobs and a nomination at the Academy Awards. Steve Jobs, The Dressmaker are better than A Little Chaos and Labor Day for sure but she needs to work with good directors now.
