'Inescapable'

Every once in a while you stumble onto something unexpected, something beyond. Tonight it's Marisa Tomei, in a movie called 'Inescapable' (netflix). Her character, Fatima, a Syrian woman, has more gravity than a neutron star, and more eye liner as well. She's a smoldering soul running downhill and taking everything with her: telephone poles, street signs, small towns, your heart and mind, and an expatriated former lieutenant in the Syrian intelligence, who once was able to walk away from her but now has returned. She's been on the screen all of two and half minutes and I'm helplessly hers. I don't care how bad this movie ends up being, I'll never walk away from Fatima.
