She's the proper age to play Aunt May

If anything, the portrayal of Aunt May is usually too old. Rosemary Harris, I love her, but the character is Aunt May, not Gramma May. I assume she's the sister to either one of Peter's parents. So unless they were in a family where the kids are 20 years apart, she should be old enough to be his mother. 51 is old enough to be a 19 year old's mother. Is it just because she's hot?

She is about 50ish in the Ultimate comics.

Aunt May in the comics was clearly an elderly woman, even when Peter was in high school so Marisa seems too young. A younger Aunt May makes more sense but people complain any time there's a bit of deviation from their idea of a character so I understand why she seems inappropriate and it's made worse that Marisa Tomei is still just too hot. Wanting to have sex with Aunt May just seems so wrong but let's face it they also wanted someone who is going to be in it for the long run too so potentially she'll naturally morph in to the old woman we've always known..

Frankly, after decades of May as this walking cadaver who is virtually braindead (nearly marrying Doc Ock) having her be younger and smarter is a welcome change.

Marisa Tomei as Aunt May is much better than some Mrs Buttersworth sounding *beep*

I never got how a high school aged kid has an aunt that is in her 70's. My oldest aunt is only in her early 60's and I'm 22.
