He would have been great as either a good guy or bad guy in it.

Definitely. Since he made a very Rambo-like movie in the 1980s with Gene Hackman (I think it was called Uncommon Valour), his character could have argued with Sly about who was the better soldier in 'Nam.
He shouldn't have been the bad guy though. Much more likeable as a good guy.
