Her new album seems embarrassing

The desperation for a hit record has clouded her judgement. She's willing to sink to nearly any level, no matter how stupid, to secure yet another hit album. Partners, though bland, was fine. Unspectacular, but not out and out embarrassing. This album is different. Stupid title, stupid premise and the duet partners?! Jamie Foxx? He's a run of the mill R&B singer. Melissa McCarthy? I know she's America's comedy darling, but can she even sing? The song choice tells me this is just going to be a comedy cut, not proper, serious singing.

Her ego is causing her to act desperately. She's a legend, forever A-list and with a respected body of work, but I sense she craves relevance. She can't quietly fade into the show business background, no, no. She has to feel she's still relevant enough to sell records, attract crowds to hear her aging voice. It's rather sad. The fact she won't give up on Gypsy is further proof of her determination to stay in the spotlight.

I think it would be better to focus on directing and humble herself to accept smaller roles in excellent films. This will likely never happen, at least the latter, so we can look forward to Partners Part 3: Babs and Bieber. Sales at the cost of artistry.

What an adorable post.

Hold on. I think that's a little harsh. It's not like she recorded a rap album. The songs, for the most part, are classics of the musical theater. I'll Be seeing You, Climb Every Mountain, etc. these are great, noncommercial songs. And let's wait until we hear it. The girls on At the Ballet are terrific.

Open the door for Mr. Muckle!!

There's nothing wrong with the songs. It's the concept and some of the duet partners. Her label obviously believes Streisand can no longer sell an album on her own.

That may well be the fact. We live in an era of dumbed down, un melodic music. Maybe she does need a gimmick to get an album of great songs heard. I still say, lets reserve judgement until we hear. I liked At the Ballet.
Btw, Anything You Can Do IS a comic song!

Sorry, most of what the OP has written is true. These duet gimmicks are
the embarrassing legacy of Sinatra and even Tony Bennett. I agree that
SOME of the songs are great, but, come on, some of these "singers" are
there for only name value.

Streisand has ALWAYS been interested in avarice over art. And now, as
she sinks further and further into cheesy mediocrity, the ranks appear
to be swelling.

True, I haven't heard the album yet from beginning to end, but I have no
doubt this will be a one-time play on Youtube for me. I wouldn't spend
a dime on this.

I'm aware it's a comic song. It just seems desperate, like an excuse to get the currently "hot" Melissa McCarthy's name on her album.

Melissa is a big box office attraction at the moment. Chris Pine is not, but she may be hoping the nerdy Star Trek fans will buy it to hear him sing. Patrick Wilson is not, to the best of my knowledge, a very major film or TV star, but he has done Broadway, so maybe he can sing? I will wait for the album, but have low expectations.
