"One day GYPSY'S on, the next day GYPSY'S off.." - Barbra Streisand

Barbra was interviewed by ET Canada, and she mentions GYPSY's proposed start date of this October, but...

Wow. Thanks for sharing.

It's interesting how Streisand talks about preferring recording/touring to
making movies, when she has always stated the opposite in the past ("The truth
is, I love directing movies"). Control over her films was never an issue
in the past, but she seems more willing to admit this now that she no longer has
that control. At 74, she is no longer a MAINSTREAM box office draw, as evidenced
by the failure of "The Guilt Trip" (which was a sweet film). She'd still be
welcomed in small films (like Sally Field), or in supporting parts, or directing
indies, but she seems unwilling to go there.

"Gypsy" really seems done. Had Streisand only attempted this twenty years
ago.

As you can see by her body language, as well as tone, she seems somewhat frustrated and even a bit apathetic. I think she was ready to say 'who cares at this point'. When the reporter asked 'Is GYPSY still on?' in the background, Barbra looked a bit surprised by that direct question.

Don't forget - a few years ago, she did tell Katie Couric that she does her concert tours whenever a movie project falls through.

What's curious is how grateful Streisand now seems about her live
audiences.

"They're my friends...in a sense."

As a youthful unknown, Streisand cleverly used her audiences to build
her reputation. As a star in the '70s and '80s, she ignored them.
In the last twenty years, she has slowly stepped back to accept the
adulation, and now, finally, seems touched by it. Just like Sinatra.

I'm beginning to think (somewhat sadly) that Streisand will tour once -
maybe even two more times - before making another movie, even as a
director. The "instant applause" that she's always claimed she didn't
need, now seems as important to her soul as it once did to her early career.

I should point out, when the reporter asked if the film is still on, Barbra answered "I'm not sure..." Now a co-producer should have the knowledge if the film is still on or not, I would think. I have a feeling it may have hit the 'pause' button for the immediate future.
