Looks like album may debut at #2 ?

Though it's still too early to confirm, and things change rapidly, Billboard predicts Streisand's new album 'Encore" will be debuting at #2 for the September 17 chart, with 130,000 copies expected to be sold by Thursday, September 1.

Florida Georgia Line, the popular country duo, is expected to land at #1 with 140-150,000 copies sold of their new album. Britney Spears is expected to take third place with 100,000 copies sold of her new album.

Billboard has been wrong before (notably with 'Love Is The Answer') and they could be wrong again. If she lands at #1, this will be her 11th #1 album in the past six decades.

Congratz Barbra on another no.1 album. Loooooooooove Encore!!

reply

"loooooooooove Encore." Well, that makes one of us. But I know I'm in
the minority. Liking "Encore" is akin to stating one likes cheese. But to
each his own.

I did start a new thread the other day confirming it was #1 according to Billboard (which officially released the news this morning) but for some reason that thread has disappeared. Don't know why...

I've been a bit harsh about this album, so let me stress again that while I don't
love it, I'm glad others are enjoying it. Also, Streisand sounds incredible for
74. There are a few very nice tracks, including the Jamie Fox track and
(especially) the duet with Patrick Wilson, who sings wonderfully. Also, I
applaud Streisand for not picking the obvious - she went, as she often does, with
some unusual material. It's just one of those albums I only wanted to listen to
once.

After the disappointing Partners I wasn't really expecting much from Encore, but the previews got me excited and then the album was released. I have the deluxe edition (of course) and there are only 2 songs that I sometimes skip. My favorites are Fifty Percent and Losing My Mind, nothing beats Streisand solo!
But out of her 3 Broadway albums, I've already played this one more than Back To Broadway.

Wow. I don't think there's much difference between this and "Partners"
and I feel pretty much the same way about both of them.

I far prefer "Back to Broadway", although I haven't listened to it in
many, many moons.

To me, a duet should be a once-in-while thing, not an entire album, or
TWO entire albums, or TWO IN A ROW albums. Then it's just a gimmick.

But they've both sold well, and you can't argue with success, can you?

I fully agree with you. I wasn't looking forward to Partners, first of all because of the duets, second of all because we already had so many versions of her biggest hits. And then the album was released and it was kind of boring. Then the Encore announcement came and I already disliked the album. But then the previews got me excited and then the actual album was released and I really like it. Most of the duets are really good, the music is beautiful and Barbra really touches me with her singing.

I really hope the title Encore reffers to this being the last duets album, enough is enough (no pun intended).

Agreed.

As I said earlier, ENCORE works better for two reasons:

1. They are new songs for Barbra (unlike 'Partners')

2. They work as a duet, with two (or more) different 'characters'
