What Up With Her TV Specials???

Back in 2005, Streisand released all five of her TV specials, including
the rare (and fairly awful) "The Belle of 14th Street" from '67. The
boxing was beautiful, as were the liner notes in the book inside.

Then, about six years ago, they were pulled, with the announcement of
a new release date. So far, nothing. Same thing with the proposed
new box set, celebrating Streisand 50 years with Columbia (Sony).

I get the abandonment of the box set of recordings, as so much stuff is
on Youtube. A box set like this would be a much, much tougher sale
than 1991's wonderful "Just For the Record." And we all know how the
odd (but also wonderful) "Release Me" flopped on the charts. But
Streisand's TV specials are incredible, and are among the most fascinating
of her entire career. Why pull such a great box set, then abandon
any rerelease? It can't be Blu Ray, as video tape really can't be
improved by this process. I just don't get it. They need to be
released again.

Anyone know about any kind of plans? PVD???

Last I heard ( a few years ago) they were going to be remastered with rumors of 'extra footage' (I believe scenes which were deleted for time constraints/commercials back when they aired on CBS). I haven't heard anything since. Luckily, I was able to get the boxed set 10 years ago (actually got it for Christmas).

I agree, GB. I bought it for my sister, and we have enjoyed watching them. I'm glad that I grabbed it when I did, because now they go for huge prices online. I was looking forward to a re-release myself, as I wanted to get one of my own.

Interesting about the video not being greatly improved by Blu-ray. The lovely Lesley Ann Warren CINDERELLA was recently re-released on dvd, and I questioned why it wasn't blu-ray. You just answered that :).

And yes - that 14TH STREET was pretty poor unfortunately.
