Was To Be Cut From ST:TNG Cast???

A friend of mine told me that Marina was to be cut from the series after the first season but was kept on because Denise Crosby wanted out.

I had never heard that before and can't find any reference to it online. Does anyone have the scoop on this rumor?

Thanks!

No, that is not true. According to one of Marina's online chats via her website, she never said that she was to be cut. She said that she was concerned that at any time "they" were going to fire some of them. She said that Patrick Stewart never unpacked the first 6 weeks of the show because he thought that he would get sacked soon (his own words). So, no, she was never going to get booted out, she was just fearful that she would. The only thing that she mentioned that they producers wanted her to do was lose some weight, which she did.

I hope this helps.

Also, Denise Crosby didn't want out. She was let go for reason no one except the cast and producers AND Denise know. Marina never mentions anything anywhere about Denise wanting out of the show. Everyone had a great rapport and enjoyed working with each other. Even Denise herself has spoken at least one or twice about why the decision was made for her to leave the show and, believe me, it was not because she wanted to go.

I hope this helps.

and now Denise Crosby is kicking herself because the show was successful.

Just say NO to censorship!

Yeah Marina was worried that her job could be at risk because the writers had a tough time with Troi in Season 1 (that's why she's absent from 4 episodes) but she was never gonna be fired. Gene Roddenberry had faith in her and the first episode of Season 2 was a Troi episode. :o)

I've heard many times that Denise was not enjoying just saying "Hailing frequencies open" in many episodes and wanted to leave. At least it gave her the best possible roles to come back for, alternate universe Tasha, Tasha's Romulan daughter and flashback Tasha!

Okay, this is not really about Troi/Marina Sirtis, but I find it interesting to note that Denise Crosby (after leaving the series) claims to have developed this "idea" about Tasha's alternate self having a child that would be about the same age that Crosby was at the time. I've heard her talk about it in a couple interviews and at a convention. I guess the writer's wanted Tasha back for "Yesterday's Enterprise" and Denise Crosby got homesick after the episode. I wonder if she made up the whole Sela story concept so that she could play with her friends again...

Again, I apologize for bringing in off topic subjects, but I've been curious for a while.

Denise Crosby was booted during the first season, because the producers discovered she did a spread in playboy a few years earlier (March 1979 edition) and didn't want that to spoil Star Trek's "wholesome" image. Feeling bad about it later, they let her come back for recurring roles.
