Marina Sirtis Angry About Chat Becoming Public

http://www.syfyportal.com/news423109.html

I totally agree it may have been a breach of confidence if it was a fan, however, I applaud Marina, and wish that other cast members as well as the trek fans would speak up and say "YOU ARE KILLING STAR TREK". I miss The Next Generation, I miss Voyager, I Miss DS9, and I even find myself missing Enterprise.... I don't know where they are going... but it is not in the right direction... RIGHT ON MARINA! I at least for one totally agree with you...

I read this article just now and I have one comment to make about this concerning Marina being so upset. If anyone has anything to say about a person that they do not want made public then they need to keep their comments to themselves and I am very serious about this. I personally think its time to lay low on Trek and wait a few years for another movie. Paramount cares about one thing only, money and they don't care how they make it. When I was still attending conventions, Gates McFadden was at the con and she made a comment that no one could repeat what she says. I then made a comment that she needs to talk about things that can be repeated and no she didn't like it. A friend of mine who was with me was stunned that I said it but it's true. If you don't want something repeated then don't say it and this hold too true to what ever Marina said about Bill. I do agree what was on that chat should not have been posted to where ever but fans talk and in a way she brought this on herself. I know she didn't mean to but Marina should no better and fans to talk to the media at time. How does anyone really know who is joining in on a chat. Any reporter can pose as a fan to find out info and don't say its not a possibility because it is possible. I've never been part of any chat for anyone and never will be. To me they are a waste of time.

Sorry if you are upset over my response but just think about what I said.

This is old news, people! Move on with your lives! Even Marina's more or less over the whole incident, from what I've heard, and she took it pretty personally. [I can see why to an extent - some moron quoted her completely out of context, which isn't fair]

Why not dwell on something more positive than the fact that some people online are disrespectful ar53holes?

it may be old news to you but the first time I heard of anything happening and I am sure most fans no nothing about this

Marina should be experienced enough about Trek fans to know that she should never say anything on a chatroom with bigtime Trek fans that she does not want to get out. In a way she has a right to be mad, but then again she doesn't.

Oh - and JJ Abrahms is about the best thing to happen to Star Trek in a long, long time. Marina has absolutely no idea what JJ is up to, and I really think that she and everyone else should wait until completely passing judgement.

Marina didn't realise some idiot was going to get hold of the chat and misquote it - usually the chats get posted on Marina's official forum and everything's fine. At least, that's how it used to be before she got scared by this incident and won't let us post them anywhere other than the "members only" part of the forum, if that.

It must be hard for someone who's generally quite outspoken and honest to tailor their words so they can't be used against them or misunderstood. It's hard enough to persuade technology-phobic Marina to come online in the first place without things like this happening!!

I may be shooting myself in the foot here, but I was in the chatroom and a part of the chat where she talked about Star Trek going downhill and made a few remarks about William Shatner.

And I have a few things to say / point out:

1. Ever since she started holding the chats, from the very beginning, they were posted on the non-paying side. She didn't have a problem with it before. She had a problem from it when she said something that she shouldn't have said in the first place. I can see why she got mad, but at the same time - if you don't want something spread all over town and all over the internet ... don't say it!

2. It wasn't one of her fans or a person in the chat who upset Marina. There was a reporter from the trek website that misconstrude some of her comments and posted them on their site. The only thing I can say to that is that the reporter has since been told that they obviously aren't that great of a reporter and more of a gossiper if they take one sentence out of context and completely turn it around to mean something completely different than what was originally said!

3. Marina backing out of her site and taking away the board's is a sore subject for many people who actively participated on that board. With that said, the price that they ask you to pay for a membership is way overpriced. Annual membership is supposed to include the following: one personally autographed photo of Marina, 15% discount in Marina's internet store, access to Marina's private bulletin board, opportunities to meet Marina at special events, and Marina's journal. So, basically you pay $59.95 for a photo that is NOT signed by Marina, a 15% discount in the internet store for movies of Marina's that you could get for HALF the price at Walmart, access to a private bulletin board that currently only has 10 members, there has been ONE opportunity to meet Marina and that was in Germany and back in 2002, and Marina's so called journal - don't even get me started on that because in the 2 years since the site switched over, she has made 5 posts. Oh, and there used to be in there "monthly chats" which maybe, MAYBE happened every 2-3 months, but more often than not were rescheduled which meant there was a chat usually every 5-6 months.

So....what did she say about Shatner?

In response to:
"if you don't want something spread all over town and all over the internet ... don't say it!"
...Wise advice, Stormy, but when does Marina NOT say what's on her mind!? That's the trouble with being too honest; it can land people in trouble from time to time. Also, I think Marina was mainly annoyed about the (seemingly ignorant) person who misquoted her and inadvertently spread it around the internet that Michael Dorn was in some tribute band when he definitely wasn't. [For those who don't know, Marina's husband's also called Michael, and she was actually referring to him rather than 'Dornie'.]

And what's with the comment about paying - I quote - "for a photo that is NOT signed by Marina"? Okay, the people who (when they can be bothered) deal with the forum and everything relating to it take an eternity and a half to send the pictures, but I've never had one that isn't signed...so unless you're implying the signed pictures are signed by someone else forging Marina's autograph, I'm not sure why you've said that.

There's only been one chat this year - but then again, it's only February (well, virtually March now) so that's not too bad really(!!)
