Question, What happened to Eric Roberts after the 80s?

Just looking at his filmography, Eric really had potential in the early 80s, with films like King of The Gypsies, Raggedy Man, Star 80, The Pope Of Greenwich Village, The Cocoa Cola Kid, & Runaway Train, giving good performances in these films, and earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Runaway Train. He was really on the rise.

However after Runaway Train, I feels like he just gave up, and just decided to acting in anything and I mean just about anything for a paycheck. After Runway Train, he has done B-Movies, C-Movies, D-Movies, all the way to Z-Movies. It's a shame, because it seems his career was just starting to go on the rise.

I read he has a drug problem, but managed to get sober and wants to work to not relapse, but I can't believe he would this much stuff.
