used to respect him as an actor...

i used to respect him as an actor... but then he threw his career away. when he did chicago i thought he had some talent, but his recent roles - step brothers, the vampire's assistant - kind of suck or appear to. anything of his i should watch to change my mind?

Walk Hard. He sings, he dances... although I liked stepbrothers so I might know nothin. Boogie Nights and Magnolia are classics that he's in, n haven't heard a bad thing about either.

I have always hated Chicago. Just sayin.

John C. Reilly, as I understand it, walked off the set of Manderlay when he learned that the director was planning on killing a donkey on-camera for the sake of a plot point. They got some other actor to take over Reilly's part, killed the donkey, but then ultimately cut the scene of its death.

Based on that episode alone, I will continue to express my very deep respect for Reilly's ethics.

I just saw him on the Ellen Degeneres show. He said something in there that could change your mind.

He's great in every role I've seen him do so far.

See Cyrus...that will change your mind. The best I've seen him in since Magnolia.

To the OP. Not everyone in Hollywood is on the A-list and can afford to be that choosy. He's basically been a character actor doing supporting roles. In the two films you criticize him for being in he’s at least co-star status. Yes there’s a limit on how many crappy movies you can do before you harm your career but you can kill it just as dead by being too particular and not doing anything.
