Met John and...

Thought he was really nice.

I shook his hand and we locked eyes, he gave me a size up and I gave him no reason to feel like he has to be on guard with me. Then my wife and I were invited back to his hotel room with a bunch of his friends and listened to them jam some folk music and drink beers outside on the lawn of the hotel. Never talked to John the entire night but he never once act like a jerk or made us feel like we were unwelcome. At one point two hotel workers, who were doing laundry, came out and approached John about pics with him; I could tell he didn't want to but he sucked it up and did pics, even ran back to the room and got them CDs of his group, John Reilly and Friends.

He had his comfort with his group and talked amongst them mainly. There was a few times were my wife ended up next to him and he wanted to make small talk but she could tell he didn't know what to say. We were there for the music and that's what we enjoyed.

John doesn't come off as a conversational starter kind of guy, it may even be a social anxiety he has, I can say he was not a jerk though. If my wife and I had felt like we were invading his space, we would have left...but we were not made to feel this way and he shared his music with us.

You can't fake good art any more than you can fake a good meal.

Yep, that sounds like John to me. He isn't a big talker when there are people around that don't know him because, he doesn't want to say the wrong thing and he just wants to act and sing and not be put in a huge spotlight.

Nice story. Thank you for sharing it.

he has a band. lol

I am grimly curious. does he sing?, how do you find time to be in a band if you are an actor. It seems hard but a lot of em do it.
