Her Elizabeth...

can hardly wait to see her interpretation of Elizabeth 1. I am sure she would be more interesting, because she plays Elizabeth at the very end of her reign and life. But it was about time Redgrave played it. One of the undisputed TOP 5 Greatest living actresses. I just feel she would be nominated for a bunch of awards next year. May be win a supporting Oscar. That be so exciting. I know Elizabeth was a grumpy old lady by the end, silently bitter and took refuge in the arts. Judi Dench was sensational as her. But it would be such a marvelous change to see the ever so sweet Vanessa play Elizabeth as a grotesque monarch, ala Maggie Smith's cantankerous ladies. I love these three towering actresses, and how they are compared and contrasted. Of course, Smith is the most contemporary of the three: she has not done queens or historical roles. There reputations are so enormous. Have they ever been pictured together?

She is the most rewarded British actress on the planet. Of course there are other two-time Oscar winning British actresses around, but Vanessa has won every major award on the Earth.. I really want her to win the Tony and the Oscar again..

You have pretty much said everything I was thinking! Bravo and I agree.

I wouldn't say she's hit and miss...she's either excellent, or good. And by good, I mean the part wasn't THAT great. I can see odd, her performance in The Thief Lord seemed odd...just a crazy nun really. But that's how she was in the book. Either way, she WASN'T Vanessa Redgrave and gave it depth even though it was like 3 minutes of silly nun :)

I SO hope she gets Oscar nominated AGAIN and wins! Especially the Tony this year! I hope they make that into a film (like on HBO).

By my count she should be at 12 with: Morgan!, Camelot, Isadora, Mary, Queen of Scots, The Devils, Julia, Whetherby, The Bostonians, Prick Up Your Ears, Howard's End, Venus and Atonement.

I think it'll also be fun for her to play Elizabeth cause she also played Mary. No other actress has done that I believe (played both characters)

A little shocked Glenda Jackson hasn't had much of a 'Best Elizabeth' mention yet. Or Bette Davis?

If those dear ladies were my Queen, I would fear for my life! Actress's with looks that could kill. Beautiful performances!

From reading interviews I know that Vanessa Redgrave has longed to play Elizabeth and (if I read somewhere else correctly) even was picked, out of a few, to originally play Elizabeth in Mary, Queen of Scots? In Mission Impossible she was asked to play her character as if she were playing Margaret Thatcher.

Oscar is doubtful as she had her chance to impress 'The Gods' and instead brought politics in. Tony, well at least if she did win that evening, she was dressed accordingly. A disappointing result i must say.

For Elizabeth I imagine, she will portray a regal 'Max'. Or is it 'Maxine'?

Who knows? Vanessa does.

Glenda Jackson is the greatest Elizabeth ever: she was the embodiment of independence, grandeus, reason and bitter restraint. Judi Dench, I thought aped Glenda Jackson. Bette Davis, first of all is not counted as a greater Elizabeth than anyone because she was American, and her performance was a studied studio-act, a great acting performance, but nothing real. Garbo would have made a ravishing Elizabeth.

There will be no picture of Vanessa, Judi and Maggie together... I gather Maggie and Vanessa are not friends, after Maggie's first husband Robert Stephens had an affair with Vanessa in the 70s.......

It would be great to see Maggie play Elizaebth I though!

Is that true? I had heard that before but have never seen it written. Robert Stephens, from what Ive read, had lots of affairs. If true, I am sure it would have been an awful time, but really both in there 70s and theres really still a grudge..? And with Vanessa being in the same position a few years earlier with Tony Richardson and Jeanne Moreau.

I have heard that they are rarely ever picked together because directors, casting and agents used to mix them up. They Do play different but to a casting director.. Looking at pictures of them younger you can see why. I am sure I heard that in a Maggie Smith interview.
