Natural blond ?

In the few interviews I've read of Redford, he always claims he's a natural born blond. Maybe he is, but does anyone else think his hair color looks a tad artificial ? Even in his early acting days, it looked so light and bright for a full-grown man. Plus, when he happened to grow a beard on film, it was brown. Shouldn't it have been the same color as his hair ?

His hair is actually considered "red." That's why it's still the same color at 79. Redheads (from light to dark) don't go gray the way other hair colors do. You will see his sideburns are gray though. It's a strange phenomenon, but hairdressers are well aware of it. I think if his hair ever appeared blonde it was colored for a film or bleached out from time in the sun. The man just isn't vain.

I did hear about redheads not going grey, they go from red to brown to white. I started getting white hair at 13, same as my brother and father, bit this guy has more natural color in his hair at 80 than me. Lol.

Natural hair color has variations. The sun and film lighting can often cause hair to look lighter. Beards and body hair are often darker or lighter than hair atop of the head. it's also true that many, especially celebs alter their hair with highlights, lowlights, and/or such.

As another poster stated, some considered his hair to be red. Some people have more reddish tones than others. I've heard the same color of head of hair described as strawberry blond and golden blond depending on who was doing the looking.

A friend met him back in the seventies, during his heyday. Her description was "Short, red hair, bad skin".

But it's highly likely that he's dyed or highlighted his hair for some performances, most actors do. These days, of course, he wears an unspeakably tragic wig for public appearances. Or maybe he just trained a muskrat to sit on his head.

I just read that his listed height is 5' 10" - certainly not short unless you're in the NBA. I wonder if ALL male actors have their published heights between 1 and 3" up from what they really are.

reply

The friend who met him is a former model, she's about 5'11". She said she was noticeably taller than him, in flats.

Many actors lie about their heights, most of the short ones claim 5'10".

Assuming he wasn't wearing thick heels or even lifts, then for someone to feel they are considerably taller than someone else, I'd guess three inches would give that impression.

Figure he's between 5'7 and 5'8.

reply

I claim 5'10". Am I that much shorter?

I remember reading a comment from a real life Washington Post female reporter (they filmed some scenes in situ), and she referred to Redford as being super skinny with blond highlights.

I had never heard the word highlights before.

As a phenomenon someone else has already pointed out, my facial hair and my head hair is much different.
I think of myself as blond, but it is some kind of Ash, I think someone told me. It's not White or Gray, it's a little darker than what is considered Blond.
But my eyebrows were dark when I grew up (not like a unibrow), and my hair was blond. Now, my eyebrows are white while my hair is Ash. If I grew facial hair I'm sure it would be Salt n Peppa at best, but it would take me a year to grow anything that resembled a beard.

Hi, just watching “Three Days of the Condor” and RR definitely has dark roots in his hair. He’s gorgeous anyhow imho.
