I think it was an act because of what he said at the end -- which I can't exactly recall, but it sounded like something-me. The way he said that at the conclusion of the recording was almost like a perfect way to end it and punctuate it in comedic fashion. Because of this, it seems like improvisation on purpose, derived from an agreed-upon premise.

Absolutely real and most likely justified. I worked in theatre 40 years and I've heard almost the exact same words come out of the sweetest people. Acting is hard work, most people don't realize that. When you're in the room you have to be focused, quiet and respectful. Sounds like Dennis Quaid reached his limit.
