How could he be so amazing, yet go unnoticed?

I mean everyone knew his face, theres no way you couldn't and if you didn't know his face you must live under a rock because he was in everything amazing and good. But people never really remembered his name, not as much as say someone like Tom Cruise (Who isn't even a quarter of the actor Pete was), it baffles me because he was so talented and amazing. Even I didn't know his name but I sure as hell knew his fface. He did an amazing job being such an iconic actor yet keeping out of the papers and press, I think that was largely the reason. But anyhow R.I.P Pete Postlethwaite and incredible man, actor and talented person :)

Because he wasn't attractive, Tom Cruise is.

he was probly big in the UK. here in the US, he was more of a "cult" actor, with good bits in Hollywood blockbusters like The Lost World: Jurrassic Park, Alien 3, and more recently, Inception and The Town

I think there are many serious actors who are more famous in Hollywood itself vs the rest of the world and for many working actors, that is more than enough. What a luxury to be able to command a high salary for your acting yet still have privacy.

I saw a book at Samuel French titled "You're That Guy". It's basically about actors like Stephen Tobolowski who are more often known for their face than their name. I think people are often surprised that someone can have a long acting career and yet no one knows their name but it's actually the rule rather than the exception.

RIP to a wonderful actor

He was more of a supporting role actor than a leading man one.

Godd@mnit, Pete! Why did you have to go?!?! I'm going to miss you. Your performances were always "a cut above". You'll always be Kobayashi to me.

Very true. He had the perfect acting career. Amazing jobs, amazing roles, but he kept his privacy completely. He really was an amazing actor.

I'm glad he wasn't a big Hollywood name. Most of the best actors are not. Who can see a film with Tom Cruise and really think of him as his role character instead of his RL self? Not me anyway, and imo the best films and actors are those that takes you away from reality for a while and really let's you forget where you are for the duration of it. If someone first and foremost is a celebrity, they've missed the whole point of acting.
