Greatest director?

Other than Kubrick, is Polanski the greatest director? I would say yes.

he is up there in the top 5 for me too with kubrick, bergman and fellini

No, there are several other better directors. He is not even top 10.

Maybe. I'd definitely have him above Kubrick.

Alfred Hitchcock is the director whom had the greatest consistency and the largest out put of good movies, in my opinion. He'll always be a top three. Polanski's best work may best Hitch's though, at least to my tastes.

Ridley Scott is another who is right up there. Alien and Blade Runner are two of the best science fiction movies ever. Then when you add in stuff like The Duellists, Legend, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, Hannibal, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster, The Martian & The Last Duel among others, he's in contention.

Those would be my top three.
