This knowledge that Felt was Deepthroat is basically a media construct. There were at least three sources that combined to make up the supposed "Deepthroat".
It's also pretty well known that Watergate was a plot staged to bring down Nixon and not some presidential conspiracy.

Felt could still be a great role for Liam Neeson and audiences will be more forgiving of any historical inaccuracies, provided the script is exceptional.
