Rob Lowe's book-the lost boys of Malibu deaths?

Did some research and can't find any info about the young boys in Rob's Malibu neighborhood who died young, disappeared and the one who killed his mother. Did he change their names to protect their families? Even though it happened in the late 70s, you would think something would come up. He talks about these kids:

Peter-a surfer kid who disappears on Zuma beach while skipping school with friends and is never found

Paul-a Dogtown skater kid who, when high on PCP stabs his mother to death and enters a mental institution

Shane-snorts rat poison thinking it was coke and dies

Sam-boy who is impaled on a tree after a bicycle accident

An unnamed boy who is abducted and abused by a man who picked him up hitchhiking

A boy who was friends with his brother who drown while trying to free lobsters from a trap

Enjoyed his book, although I felt there were so many stories of meeting famous people in his younger days that it was too good to be true.

The Paul is Paul Hackett and he stabbed his mother in 1984. I found an article from the Los Angeles Time.

There’s also a brief mention of Paul in this article about his brother.
