The 16 year old was over the age of consent in Georgia, where this took place. What was unlawful was the video tape because one must be at least 18 there. I never had sympathy for that girl. Most 16 year olds in 1988 would have killed to be with Lowe as it is, and she didn't help matters by telling friends she made a tape with him and was going to use it to get money. Yeah, what a victim.
And you know what... I'm sick of girls running with an older crowd (like this girl did) and pretending they're older, but then the guy gets in trouble after the fact. Are they supposed to card a girl before leaving with them? With some having fake IDs and hanging out at +21 place, a guy can't win. I do think plenty of underage people are taken advantage of, but this 16 year old who was with Lowe wasn't one of them. However, I always thought what he did was skeevy. As the other poster said, he was ahead of his time though.
