Emmy Snub!

I never really enjoyed Tea Leoni's work in comedies, but her range in Madam Secretary is fantastic--nuanced, strong, sensitive, real, and occasionally appropriately and smartly funny. She's GREAT in this role, and I simply cannot fathom how she hasn't been nominated for it. I believe the networks do the initial nominations, so is CBS not putting her up for consideration? Is the next round voters in the industry who don't know about this show? I just don't get it. This is the role of a lifetime and she is nailing it show after show after show. Meanwhile, everyone loves Julia Dreyfus and she has won for comedy five years in a row. I find it hard to understand how Dreyfus wins year after year in a fairly standard role in comedy and Leoni, who is acting her socks off in a really complex role, can't even get nominated.

I like her in this role, but do be honest, there’s no depth to the role. No meat to it. Nothing unique, nothing defining character-wise. It’s just a basic good role that she absolutely nails, but there’s no variety to it.

Compare it to all the roles in The West Wing. ALL of TWW’s main actors had multiple nominations. Even Janel Maloney. Why? Each of their roles had depth, defining mannerisms, defining quirks, huge ups, huge downs and along with it, and I hate to say it as I love Madam Sec, much better writing, much better defining lines.

In Madam Sec to me the only *character* with some real bite to it that would fit right into The West Wing is Russell. Also latecomer Mike Barnow. Others like Blake, Matt, Daisy, Jay could too, as they and Tea have the chops, but with better defined characters.
