Is it true Keaton had been blacklisted for a while?
I heard this rumor about 10 years ago.
shareBlacklisted over what?
shareWell judging by the fact that we just didn't know where he was and when we were seeing him it was either ordinary, or just horrible, that would be a good hypotesis. Or maybe, he was just doing very weak choices for his career...
shareNever heard that.
All for a box of chocolates...
I think it was more so of him being type cast as Batman.
shareI read somewhere he wasn't doing major motion pictures, just theater for a while.

Supposedly, Warner Bros blacklisted him when he refused to play Batman a third time.

shareI think that part of the reason why his career stagnated around this time was that he strayed too far from what people grew to expect of him. Before Batman, you could argue that Michael Keaton was best at playing the quirky everyman. I just think that after Batman, he kind of became lost in that he wasn’t sure if he should still do comedies or does he have to be a serious actor from then on.
I just don’t recall too many offbeat roles that Michael Keaton played after 1989, other than Multiplicity.
I also don’t think that Keaton fully released the potential of having the Batman role. What I mean is that he probably in hindsight, embrace his role as action adventure hero, make a ton of money, become a top actor and then you can pick what you want. In other words, you should try to balance more commercial fare with the films that genuinely interested you (which could more than often work against you if said films are more than often flops).
