The Oscars: What's Really Going On?
Anyone else catching these obvious "hints", that speech by the president of the academy, and ALL of the missing stars?
What are we really watching?

Maybe that the industry is in a reflective mood right now with movie-going down by over 5% in 2014. They are in the middle of a huge crisis right now in falling gate and rising costs.
shareThere are TOO MANY awards shows. It's gotten ridiculous. The Academy Awards used to be exciting, but, let's face it: the formula is worn out. I remember when Bob Hope and then Johnny Carson hosted, and they always knew how to run the show. I can't think of anyone currently in the industry who might have the grace, timing and wit to maintain such a long and complicated event.
Neil Patrick Harris looked like he aged 20 years tonight. Poor guy.

They were fabulous. The actors and actresses were elegant and gracious and knew how to give an acceptance speech. They didn't have to be bleeped every 2 minutes. The red carpet, the walking ads for clothes and jewelry. UGH. Give me the old days when the stars dressed themselves. Some looked fabulous..some were hysterically awful. But that was all part of the charm. Now they are all a bunch of cookie cutters.
You are so right also about too many awards. There isn't even any excitement anymore because basically we know who is going to win almost every award. All 4 acting awards were locks. I was really hoping someone else would win just to shake it up.
And Patricia Arquette. My major bone is with you. Not that you talked about equality for women, but you've won every frigging award this season. You're an actress. Memorize your speech. Try and be gracious and thankful. Short and sweet.
Remember us, for we too have lived, loved and laughed
