As Oscar Host: Not His Fault. Bad Writing....

I am no fawning fan of Harris but I figured his role as host of the Oscars would be a slam dunk. I was surprised as anyone else that he wasn't that good. But it clearly was not his fault. People don't realize that the whole thing is mostly scripted and this year's head writer never did anything like this before and was not known as a comedic writer. I don't know why they hired the guy in the first place. No one could have done a good job with lines like the one he had for Reese Witherspoon and the whole bit about the locked suitcase. It was painful and worse of all, I could sense Harris knew it was going well either. It's a shame. He's a charming and talented guy and he deserved better. Much better.

For all of you who blame the writers, you can blame Harris, too. His name was prominently displayed in the writing credits.
