still alive
just retired.
shareAnd a treasure
shareso true.
shareDid he ever win an Oscar !
shareHe has two - The French Connection and Unforgiven.
shareUnforgiven . Great great movie
shareFunny how his career started by appearing in a black and white comedy spoof about a monster, his creation, getting to know said creation, and lamenting its departure from his home saying, "Wait, where are you going? I was going to make expresso!"

This was just a cameo and he wasn't even credited at the time.
He had already established himself before this with The French Connection, The Poseidan Adventure, The Conversation... I even remember him from Marooned.
He retired without fanfare and turned to writing.
I admit to not really following his career closely. Thanks for filling me in.
Sad to hear how quiet the direction his life has taken, eerie since he's not even dead. Who knows, people seem to get more famous for what they do and love after they're gone. Maybe this is what he wants to do. Writing is wise choice for filling in the time after having such a busy life and workload. He should adjust better than most.

"his career started by appearing in a black and white comedy spoof about a monster..."
Before "Young Frankenstein" he had been in dozens of movies and tv episodes, including "Bonnie and Clyde", "The French Connection", "The Poseidon Adventure", and "The Conversation". He had the cameo in "Young Frankenstein" because he was already a big name.
2, unforgiven and the french connection.
shareBut no picture has been posted of him for over 10 years.
shareHere he is in a picture posted January 2018... there may be more recent ones out there too.
