Personal opinion is Macy should have won. Edward Norton was also very good in Primal Fear. Gooding for me seemed more like a nominee performance and not award winning.

I actually thought Edward Norton gave the best performance in Primal Fear. Surprised Tom Cruise wasn't even nominated. He was just as good in Jerry Maguire as Cuba Gooding Jr. It's hard for me to go against Cuba Gooding Jr. in the end because he seems like such a nice guy and I loved his acceptance speech. It's a shame what's become of his career. Now he only makes direct to video s***.

shareYes. A women won a Oscar just for making a phone call. It is the performance that is memorable and that phrase Show Me the Money is all he needed. And you cannot compare because it is like comparing apple with oranges. Was his comedic performance better then Norton's dramatic one. IMO yes. I bet people today will remember his performance over anyone else that year. Ask a person in the street do they remember that line then ask them do they remember any line from any of his competitors that year or even what their roles were. The fact is IMO he was very good in that movie and was awarded accordingly.

People remember "I'll be back" but that doesn't make Schwarzenegger a great actor. Actually, Gooding's line is all that I remember from his performance. The classic scene on the phone. I loved the movie but I can't remember anything else that he did in it except that he played football. I remember Macy's performance better and Norton's is memorable only for the twist. At the time, there was a lot of good will about Jerry Maguire and Gooding and the line so that's why he won.
