Had dinner with him
There were about 6 of us at dinner at a nice restaurant in Beverly Hills. He drove up in a old, but beautiful Rolls Royce. I wasn't sure what to expect when I found out I was going to have dinner with him. I had seen the crazy behavior on Letterman and had followed his interesting film career. He was sharply dressed and groomed. He was there with his girlfriend at the time. He was very gracious and shy. He came across very intelligent, not irratic or manic. Truth be told, if you were at this dinner and didn't know who he was, you would not have thought anything odd. You would have thought he was a shy, nice guy who seemed very accommodating and happy to be there. In his early/mid 40's he was more handsome than I anticipated, having grown into some of his sharper features. I did not see people recognize him. After all, his main fame was in the 80's which is now 3 decades ago. You need to be a film buff to know who he is. He had an element of class and manners that I was pleased to see. Ironically, Crispin was/is known as kind of a weird dude, but at the end of the day, has really outlasted most of his fellow 80's icons. You have to have something going on to keep it all moving forward for 3 decades. It was a nice glimpse into someone who, in my book, gave us one of the very best film performances in all of film. Maybe he has us all fooled. Maybe it was all in act and he's the sanest guy in the room. I'm still a fan.
