Brazil - a masterwork that belongs on more people's top film lists. It's overlooked and underrated.
The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen - SO inventive and imaginative. This is basically the blueprint for the "true" Terry Gilliam movie. It champions the imagination and freedom of the self. It's creative, wacky, and a little mad. It barely holds together and works - but it *does* work.
Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus - which I think is underrated as well. It's similar in a lot of ways to Munchhausen.
I feel bad about leaving off 12 Monkeys and The Fisher King. 12 Monkeys is a great sci-fi film which kept me guessing up until the end. Fisher King is his most "normal" movie, I think, and with a more "mainstream" director, I feel almost positive it would have received a Best Director and Best Picture nomination.
And a little bad about leaving off Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Strangely, I'm a HUGE Monty Python fan, but I don't feel bad about ignoring those. I think it's because, to me, they aren't really "Terry Gilliam" movies, even though he co-directed Holy Grail and directed part of Meaning of Life. To me, they're "Monty Python" movies, and are set aside. That's my excuse for not putting one of them on this, anyway.
No love for Tideland ?
