What if Fincher made a supernatural horror?
I'd love to see that, and if so, I think it might look something like The Ring.

shareWhat if Fincher made a supernatural horror?Dude, I literally just came here to make the same damn post. In fact, in case you do not believe me, click on my recent post history and you'll see where my interests are.
...except I don't think it would look like The Ring at all. It would be intense for sure, but think of the production style of something like Zodiac and Benjamin Button or Panic Room. Now picture some supernatural suspense lurking around corners or corridors or long hallways (depending on the given threat) in any of those films, in place of the antagonists we already see in those films.
I'm not saying it will look like the following, but it would certainly look like this more than it would The Ring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqNdbHHWtBc (except even better)
Also, here is proof of my aforementioned claim:

There's more where those came from.

Wow thanks for sharing that film that was great, except I didn't like the end, but I'm not sure why.
Anyhow, I compared Fincher's style to the Ring initially before I rewatched it as I was trivially noting similarities such as the lack of handheld camera for the majority of the film, along with a cool, dank colour palette (even though Fincher's is far more fabricated, whereas the Ring's is just mossy blue), and the palpable atmospheric-ness would be something Fincher would highly prioritise for the film.
But yes having rewatched The Ring it is very different to something he'd do - in general the hopefulness of the characters in throughout the film isn't a characteristic I could see Fincher employing, and it's actually not as dark a film as I remember from when I last saw it. The bathtub suicide however is very Fincherian!
I do think Fincher would be able to conjure up some of the most truly frighteningly memorable scares of modern horror - that scene in Thresher with the swinging lamp would belong in the realm of his type of scares I feel.
In that clip I shared with you I was referring mostly to the set, location, and overall look of the piece, in addition to maybe some of its intensity, when I compared it to something Fincher might do.
It's a nice little short horror film.
There's another really creepy one on Youtube called Light's Out. You should watch that one too (but that one has nothing to do with Fincher or my previous comparisons to his style or anything like that). It's only three minutes.

I'd love to see some of these 'big shot' directors tackle the horror genre.
I'm not a fan of Finchers but I'm a huge horror fan and I'd definitely be game for checking out a horror movie by him. Same goes for Scorsese, Tarantino and Nolan. Would be interesting to see.
