An Open Letter to Mr. Duvall Regarding 'Get Low' --'thank you
This is a letter of thanks to Robert Duvall and all of the people who made "Get Low" --
Dear Mr. Duvall,
I am writing this brief note to thank you for making "Get Low."
Without burdening you with details, I have just seen the movie and wanted to get this note off to you before I turned in tonight.
Briefly as I can -- your performance of Felix Bush was amazing. You made it so clear how we can be our severest judges and cruelest jailers. Felix's speech at his funeral party was utterly believable to those "who have ears to hear . . ."
I was moved to tears and laughter: as in an early scene where Felix takes shelter from his nightmares in his barn and is so scared that he probably does not expect to live til morning. Morning comes and he finds his mule, Gracie, sitting in the yard. I laughed because I thought the mule was saying, "you are just too noisy to share even a barn with!"
I was so moved that when the end credits rolled I started to applaud. When the house lights came up some very nice woman who I never met before asked me if I enjoyed the picture. I said I did and hoped I hadn't distracted her and her husband who were sitting at the end of the row.
I added that for a man of your age to dedicate his energy to telling stories that move people to think and feel is an inspiration. Especially to someone like me who is only now training to act and write plays
I sincerely wish you continued success. I recently saw some episodes from the old "Naked City" series that included your performance in "The Tap Marked Hot Gives Cold." It stunned me still to see what is possible to make people understand the person who may pass them in the street.
I must be getting tired.
Good night and best wishes,
Steven John Bosch
