Too much money

So the latest rumor is that RDJ will get $200M for his role in the upcoming Infinity Wars movies (apparently there will be two parts, like everything in Hollywood these days). The overall budget has been pegged at $1B.

This salary amount seems an unlikely number as it's such a large percentage of the overall budget, but it's not outside the realms of possibility that his agency could negotiate for that much. And he's clearly worth more than the other actors in terms of revenue.

But here's the thing that bothers me. Assuming all this is true (and that's a big "if"), I can't help thinking that Robert getting such a big slice of the pie leaves less for his costars. This isn't an Iron Man film; it's not all about him. Does his enormous salary rob from the others? How much can Marvel be expected to spend on two films and have any hope of getting its money back? Even the Avengers films only grossed around $1.4B.

As far as I know they get money according to the contracts they signed and if MCU thinks it's too much they are being released(see Terrence Howard and his moaning up to this day).

If MCU will give him that amount of money (which I doubt) they have their reasons and it's not as if the other actors will die of hunger.

What worries me is how much hate he's going to get in the internet because of it, how much more overrated as an actor he'll become the more money he gets, according to the other actors' fans.

At the very least, he will have the money.

Me too.I doubt the figure is correct but w'll see.

Let's try to look at it: Robert has mentioned more than once, that he doesn't want to be Iron Man anymore. The studio could have made him an offer, he says, he wants way more than that, and they tell him where to put it and go on without Iron Man, or with another actor. Apparantly they are aware, they'd lose a major reason for people to watch the movie, so they obviously think, he's worth it. Yes, other actors' fans will (again) hate him for that, but people hate him for so many things.

To be totally honest with you: I wouldn't mind, if Rob would call it quits on the Iron Man thing. The money he's getting there enables him to implement movies he wants to do via Team Downey, his production company. It's just that he has hardly any time left for his own wishes. I'd rather see Tropic Thunder 2, Restoration 2, Wonder Boys 2 (secret title: Satan's Alley), or something really demanding and tragic and argh, than the millionth Marvel thing.

Yes, I doubt it too. I think he gets his share from the film's earnings after its release. And he seems to be doing other 'mentoring' for Disney too. We don't really know much about his contract.

I couldn't care less what they think. They don't know how the business works and half of them probably still think Iron Man was his first movie. 

I don't really disagree with you. However, I see a pattern in film critics in which -some of them- repeat he keeps playing the same character, or even more weirdly, himself. And fans take their cue from them. In this digital era we are wherever the wind blows and it's so damn easy for everyone to turn against him.

I am 100% certain had he done Chaplin today, the so-called critics would say he's played Tony Stark again.

Which is the one reason I "defend" a 50 year old man (who managed to successfully change his life and claw his way to the top) on the internet.

Lol, that's so true. Film critics can be very insightful one minute, then other times very surface level in their analysis, and very eager to follow the herd.

I'm right there with you. Tony Stark is witty, inspirational, etc., but he's otherwise pretty conventional. He's the popular kid at school and I guess I miss the days when RDJ played the outcasts, the quirky characters.
