So, he's #1 paid actor?

Sorry, can't help myself but to think that there's obviously something wrong with the Hollywood considering this actor as someone worthy to getting paid the most. All he does in movies is makes jokes, and turns every movie he stares in, into an non-serious project. I liked Iron Man, but never could have praised it so much due to him being who he is. He basically shows off in every movie, tells some lame-ass jokes, and is generally annoying. Don't take me wrong, I am okay with this actor. His jokes are sometimes funny to me, and is quite interesting to see him in movies, but no way he deserves that kind of paycheck.

Iron Man 1 -- $585M
Iron Man 2 -- $624M
Iron Man 3 -- $1.2B

Sherlock Holmes 1 -- $524M
Sherlock Holmes 2 -- $545M

Yeah, he's worth a lot, but not the rumored $200M.

Which actor deserves that kind of money? What kind of person deserves that kind of money? I mean unless you have found the therapy for cancer or Aids why would you get that kind of money? But that's another story....

So did Johnny Depp deserve the money he got for PotC? Or any other of the highest paid actor for decades now?

Robert Downey Jr works since he was a teen, he's part of the entertainment business since the day he was born. He was considered one of the best actors of his generation (if not the best) for many years when he was in drugs. And quite suddenly he's just Iron Man. Well, Iron Man brings money to marvel; Marvel pays its actors and they think he deserves the kind of money they give him. And they are going to give it to him as long as they think he deserves it. What you and I think is insignificant.

The only question remains. Will you yield... in time?

There is something wrong with Hollywood, yes. Just like something is wrong with prefessional sports, politics, world economy, music business... You name it. From that point countless persons are getting way too much money, not just RDJ. When Disney is willing and able to pay him such an amount, they must think the result is worth the invested money.

You are aware by the way that it's not Downey himself writing the scripts? Of course he is often casted for cheeky, sarcastic characters, as this is what people know him as. And "fans" going like "He IS Tony Stark!" shows they don't want to see anything else anyway. Just like they want to see Johnny Depp as some kind of freak, Brad Pitt with that one facial expression ... You get the picture. RDJ by the way is far from showing off in "every" movie. During the last years I remember Charlie Bartlett, A Guide To Recognize Your Saints, Fur, The Soloist, Good Night and Good Luck, A Scanner Darkly, and, to a strong amount, The Judge or Zodiac, where the sarcasm comes over as part of the character, but very secondarily.

Robert Downey Jr has been in the business, considered one of the very best, long before the Marvel franchise, and he will go on. What movie companies think he's worth is not to us.

has a thing for the dude portraying the dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude

You'll understand why he is the #1 paid actor when you see him in the last party.

I think RDJ is a really talented actor, but do I think he's worth getting paid 80 million dollars a year or even close to that amount? No. People go to Avengers movies to see the avengers just like they go to iron man movies to see iron man. RDJ isn't iron man, he PLAYS iron man. Anyone could do his job. Don't get me wrong, he does a good job, but he isn't getting butts in the seats, the franchise is. He deserves to be fairly compensated for his time, but he doesn't deserve what he's getting. He must have an amazing agent though to get him that deal, or else the people at Disney really wanted him to stay and he was honestly willing to walk away. It's not like they couldn't replace him if they wanted to. It's pretty disgusting he's made so much money and for doing so little.

reply

Doing so little? Perhaps it's a bit too much but he's responsible for the huge success of the franchise and I think he's still putting butts in the seats. It seems Disney doesn't agree with you. 

Clearly some random people in the internet know better about marvel/disney's interests and best assets than marvel/disney. Not one of them have explained why marvel/disney/warner bros haven't replaced him with someone cheaper though.

The Iron Man movies have made more than any of the other single-Avenger movies by far. Iron Man 3 made almost as much as the Avenger's movies world-wide, so yes, he does puts butts in seat. Cap and Thor movies haven't come even close yet, although I suspect Civil War may do better than even IM3. And look whose being marketed as the co-lead in that?
