He is such a fantastic actor, but it's sad that he goes for the paycheck and not for beautiful interesting character.
Is he too old to get good offers? Or do the producers/directors avoid him, because of his current image of playing self-centered characters?
Because people care to see RDJ as Tony Stark/Sherlock Holmes and he is a box office poison outside of those characters
I agree, he's an amazing actor but unfortunately nowadays most of the people only care to see him as Tony Stark. His last film didn't even do that good at the box office :/

He's got two little kids, impending private school bills and probably a hefty mortgage. It's the same reason most people work, just on a much bigger scale.

I think people romanticize actors and films. At the end of the day it's just a job. No aspiring actor would fall in love with acting if they didn't get paid. Downey is super fortunate he is in the elite 1 percent bracket of incredible salary.
And what would Robert Downey Jnr do if he stopped acting? Probably be bored. Even super rich people will get bored if they have nothing to do. There's only so many laps you can swim in your huge swimming pool before you get fed up.
He could put some of his vast fortune in some off-shore account to avoid tax, donate some to charity, spend it all, go back to drink and drugs, get arrested again! But it's probably best for him to stick to all these endless comic book and Sherlock Holmes sequels.

shareOf course he and his family are set, that totally goes without saying; it's the idea that he has gotten to a point where "no one" really knows him as anything BUT Iron Man and Sherlock, simply because he really hasn't played much of anything else since 2009. He has Tropic Thunder embedded in there, otherwise....
If anyone actually takes the time to look at his filmography, he has many WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC roles that are worth a watch. It's like Johnny Depp in that regard; both have great movies, but lately, their roles are (while fun and entertaining) BLAH.
