A biopic about Walt Disney?

Is there any reason a biopic about him hasn't been made? I imagine it's because of Disney's (the company) influence in Hollywood, since biopics often reveal unflattering details of a subject's life and Disney (the company) thinks it would harm their brand?

reply

I can't think of a film about any of the heads of the great studios. They pop up in autobiographical films about stars and there are some fictional films but nothing supposedly telling the story of the folks who ran the business.
I may be wrong, I have half a memory that there are films about people in the very early days but that would be pre-1930s figures - effectively the silent era.

Showtime had a recent biopic about Charlie Chaplin (founder of United Artists)

It was excellent...I highly recommended viewing for any film buffs.

Howard Hughes was a head of RKO studios if I'm not mistaken, but you're right, I can't think of any biopics about any of the heads of the Big Five (Universal, WB, Paramount, Fox & MGM). It seems as if such a biopic about Walt Disney would have to be independently produced, but it would be next to impossible to give it a wide release.

reply

His life story would be compelling viewing.

Chum for Disney's lawyers.

It really would! Just think of his contributions to cinema and entertainment in general. And would be great to see all his scandals/accusations addressed in dramatic form.

But a biopic about him would definitely hurt Disney's brand, so it's hard to imagine such a movie being produced any time in the foreseeable future.
