shareFilm historian Leonard Maltin said that her "downfall" (if that's what you want to call it) is that she always eschewed playing the same role twice and instead being interested in playing colorful characters. I'm sure she's been offered a ridiculous number of femme fatale roles over the years but how many times can an actress do that before they debase themselves like Sharon Stone did with Basic Instinct 2? She switched agents a few years ago and they've gotten her into supporting roles in bigger movies as opposed to lead roles in TV movies so that's a step up. I kept hoping that she'll knock another one out of the park like Kim Basinger did with L.A. Confidential a few years ago and finally get the respect she deserves. Kim was in a similar position before that movie - a blonde sexpot over 40 who wasn't getting offered the best roles.
shareshe had a moment of box office greatness with the hand that rocks the cradle and was the lead in a few movies following the success of that one. i don't think they were promoted enough though, the one with antonio banderas had lots of potential.
shareI think De Mornay has had a very successful career:
FILM:
Risky Business
Runaway Train
Backdraft
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle
Guilty as Sin
The Three Musketeers
Identity
Wedding Crashes (although she was on for around 2 mins)
TV:
E.R.
Blind Side
By Dawn's Early Light
The Shining
The Practice
A Girl Thing
The Con
John from Cincinnati
She should be very happy with her career, she may not have been as big as Tom Cruise did but she defines a successful career...
don't forget backdraft! that was a big hit!
shareDont Worry, Backdraft is already on the list, lol...
shareDon't forget "The Trip to Bountiful," in which Rebecca gave a beautiful and sensitive performance.
As far as her not reaching her potential, I think she's done quite nicely with her career. Not every actress needs to be a Julia Roberts (ugh), for which I am grateful. Rebecca has played a variety of characters in some great films and TV shows, and she's far from over.
