How come her career didn't reignite after Hand That Rocks The Cradle???

After Risky Business, her career landed in a bit of a rut (with the exceptions of A Trip to bountiful and Runaway Train), so The Hand that Rocks The Cradle was hailed as De Mornay's comeback. The movie was a big hit and she got a lot of exposure and good reviews of that movie. But what happened then!!!???
The very lame Guilty As Sin opposite the-then-has-been Don johnson??? The very lame Three Musketeers??? The Shining-miniseries??? How did that happen???
Still, I'm glad that she's a t least working (I liked her in Identity and am looking out for Lords of Dogtown)

actually, I will beg to differ with you. I think the range of emotion she showed in The three Muskateers is one of her finer moments, along with the Hand that Rocks the Cradle. In my opinion, The Three Muskateers is one of the most re-watchable fils of all time. Just a movie that will suck you in if you catch it while flipping channels no matter how often you have already seen it.

I've often wondered what happened to. She is talented enough to be one of the hottest actresses in the business and too often seems to be wasted.

Just because you liked her performance in "The Three Musketeers" does not mean that it was a big movie. What an idiotic response to a sensible question.

I agree with you, I've always wondered why she never became a big star. After all if Tom Cruise did it in Risky Business then why not her? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad she is still able to find work, but I think she is overlooked for some reason.

I've always loved her, hope she's around a long time, even at this caliber.

Terrible, just terrible!

I agree , rebecca is a talented actress
if julia won for " erin f* brockovich"..at least she should have been nominated for " the hand that rocks the cradle"
or an emmy for " getting out".

I don't think Angelina is taking any roles from Rebecca. I think _Risky Business_ didn't do for Rebecca what it did for Tom, even though Rebecca had the harder role (in my opinion), because Rebecca was playing a "loose woman" in a puritanical country. Same happened with Sharon Stone and Demi Moore after _Basic Instinct_ and _Striptease_. People love them for a second, but at the end of the day they're rejected as prostitutes.

I think there's also something to be said for talent here, though. Very few actresses can take on a highly sexual character and live to tell about it, unless they have the chops to immediately transform into a less tawdry character. Glenn Close, for example, survived _Fatal Attraction_ by taking on _Dangerous Liaisons_ the next year. Sure, she played another villain, but not a naked one, and that awesome performance helped dilute the memory of her getting it on with Michael Douglas in a sink, an elevator, etc.

De Mornay, Moore and Stone, on the other hand, while all fine actresses, are no Glenn Close when it comes to range. De Mornay could never escape her iciness, which can also be said of Stone. And Moore...well, she tries.

I was responding to the OP's assertion that De Mornay wasn't very good in The Three Musketeers. As far as why her career didn't take off after Hand that Rocks the Cradle, who knows. It could be one of a hundred different reasons, most of which we will never be privy to, so why bother wondering. Better to just appreciate her good work in the movies she has done than fret about why she didn't do better......
