Dumbledore

I'm sad that the Potter movies have taken this unspoken vow of 'No Americans'. I always pictured Cromwell as Dumbledore when I read, and I think he would have been perfect for the part.

Discuss.

I agree. He would do splendid Dumbledore.

Skinny ankles, bad posture

Oh yes, and especially in terms of height and voice -- and he proved in "Blackball" that he's good at doing a British accent

I suppose Cromwell could pull it off.

for years I thought I was the only person in this world to think that, lol. I've only read the first four books (is admitting that a sacrilege?) but I always pictured him as dumbledore. glad to read that somebody else thought that as well. still sad they didn't pick him.

It wasn't an unspoken vow, though, was it? I can't be sure, but I could have sworn that J.K. Rowling stipulated that the movies were to be adapted with actors from their character's nationalities (British people from Britain, Krum from Hungaria and Fleur from France).

I generally agree with that. I think the movies would have lost some of their charm if we'd had well-known Hollywood actors portraying the characters. I take exception with James Cromwell, though. No offense to Michael Gambon, but I think James Cromwell would have done a superb job as Dumbledore.

First of all the girl who plays luna is from ireland...

And no known actors?! lets see...
RICHARD HARRIS! as dumbledore
RALPH FIENES as voldemort
MAGGIE SMITH as mcgonagall
BRENDAN GLEESON as mad eye
JASON ISSACS as lucius malfoy
Alan rickman as snap
Gary oldman as sirius black

comon now theres a PLETHORA of oscars, golden globes and emmys up there.
All those actors are highly highly respected...
In fact every single one of them as been at LEAST nominated for one of those

Just because will smith didnt play harry doesnt mean they picked nobodys.

Ireland remains a British isle, thus still being from Britain. Although, I suppose I misspoke when I said 'well-known Hollywood actors', when what I meant to say was 'well-known American actors'. For me the connotation of America and Hollywood go hand in hand. I would refer to the actors you mentioned as 'well-known British actors' (i.e. did not get their start in Hollywood).

You sound so angry. Is an apology in order? I'm sorry. Better?

"Ireland remains a British isle, thus still being from Britain".

Really? I could have sworn that I was a citizen of an independent republic. That's what it says in my passport...

Brendan Gleeson is another Irish member of the cast. Def not British.
