Hallmark accused of saying she’s too old now

Hallmark denied allegations outlined in an Oct. 9 lawsuit filed by Penny Perry, a 79-year-old casting director who said she was unceremoniously fired in April after nine years with the company.

According to Variety, the lawsuit claims Hallmark executive VP of programming Lisa Hamilton Daly told her staff she did not want to cast “old people.”

Daly is accused of singling out Hallmark vets Holly Robinson Peete and Lacey Chabert as examples of “old talent” who need to be “replaced.”

I agree.

Chabert was hella hot back in the day, but age has crept up on her.

No need to fire her though.

She can start playing the mom or mother-in-law of actors in lead roles.

She's 42. Her daughter is 8 years old. Do you think Hallmark should do a Christmas movie about 8 year olds?

reply

We’re talking about her character, not her real life.

She’s 42.

Could have had a kid at 16 or 18.

Which means that daughter would be 26 or 24 in the movie.

Or put less makeup on her and say she’s 45 or 46.

Now her kid is 27 or 28.

See how that works?

I doubt Hallmark wants to do movies with characters who had kids when they were teens. Most Hallmark movie watchers would not want that. Hallmark's target audience is unlikely to watch a romance about people in their 20s. Chabert is still beautiful and talented and can still be the lead in Hallmark movies.

I completely agree with the idea that Lacy Chabert is still beautiful and should be able to be the lead in a movie. With the caveat that I don't give a f**k about Hallmark movies and will never be watching them anyway. I'd love to see Lacy Chabert in something I WOULD want to watch.

While 42 is kinda old for an actress to play a lead in a non-historical role, Hallmark's demographics are probably women between 30-60 years old. The point I guess would be to deliver what their viewers want.

I don't watch Hallmark movies but my wife does. I'll ask her tonight what she thinks about this (she's 62 for full disclosure).

I'm all for Hallmark finding new talent for their movies but they've always been a place for actresses who are 30 plus.
