I'm also wishing he turned down the project. But it looks like it's too late.
And like Wombstar wrote in one of his comments: perhaps he wants to do something his kids can watch too. Who knows.

I don't like the idea of him contributing to Disney's remake- mania AGAIN either.
And with Will Smith on board now (whom I just can't watch anymore since that crap "After Earth") I'll be certainly skipping this one and set my hopes in what ever is his next next project.

Tim doesn't tend to do what fans want him to do he does what he wants.
The only saving grace is Dumbo has a big circus theme and that's the only thing that's got me remotely interested, and maybe it's what captured Tim's interest.
