Better director than actor?

I would NEVER say that Mel Brooks is a bad actor, but I feel when he's on screen it's almost a bit...awkward? That's not the right word, but I feel like when he's directing, there's nothing but genius, but when he's acting it's just almost...forced. Like he could be so much funnier if he was behind the scenes.

Anyone else feel this way, too?

I actually liked his acting, but comedy acting tends to be unappreciated.

I see what you mean with some roles, but I love him in Blazing Saddles.

His cameos were much better than his leading roles.
