One of three actors to play Inspector Clousseau. (Sorry, David Niven doesn't count)

The other two were of course the man himself, Peter Sellers, and Steve Martin. Clousseau was the wrong role for the brilliant Arkin, who specialized in "slow burn" everman characters slowly loosing their shit and ending up a raving wreck at the end. Clousseau required a different approach, which only Sellers really nailed. Clousseau is neurotic and off the wall at the very start, and only gets crazier as the film progresses.

So, not one of Arkin's best pieces of work, but he did so many other great films like Freebie and the Bean and The In-Laws which utilized his unique acting talents to the hilt.

I'll give Arkin this: his Clouseau movie is at least more watchable than Steve Martin's. But yeah, the part is pretty much tied to Sellers.
